Landscapes of the Sacred #2

At this point in the book the author is talking about his experiences on the trails and the different types of trails that are present. The geography of the land, specifically the "Rim of Fire", due to the fact that it is made up of some of the highest mountains. This is mentioned due to the fact that these high points are the paths that produce the most struggle and that means a lot to most long-distance hikers looking for a spiritual journey. Mount Kailas is also mentioned in this chapter because this mountain is acknowledged throughout Asia as the holiest mountain in the world. It is also explained that mountains, or the high points, on Earth mean a lot to many people of most religions because they either symbolize something or are seen as closer to their god(s).
