Personal Choice - Blog #3

When we learned about sacred places I tried to think of a place that I really felt was sacred to me. I thought of a small town in West Virginia that I have gone to every summer for the past six years. Every summer my churches youth group will go on a mission trip to West Virginia to help out the less fortunate. What we do there is repair houses and connect with the people of the small town through the projects that we complete for them. It takes a lot of hard work to get done what we have but everyone loves the trip. When we go to West Virginia we always stay at a 4-H camp nearby. This place is a very sacred place to me. It has barely any cell service, which has given me time to connect with the people around me and God as well. The thing that makes this place so sacred for me is that it is a place where we worship and hear the gospel of God being told by our close friends. We join together every night to sing and give thanks to God for all that he has done for us. I have had many sacred experiences when staying on that land. Last year we had an encounter with a baby black bear. It was running across the road when we spotted it, many people ran after it but I decided to stay back because I knew mom couldnt be far. It was an amazing experience because I had never seen a real bear in person before let alone in the wild. The end of this trip is always a hard one for me, especially this past year when saying goodbye to all my friends considering I would be too old to come back the next year. Though I might never go there again, that small little camp in the middle of the woods in West Virginia will always be a sacred place for me.

You can sort of make out the bear we saw in this picture:
