The ancient arabic proverb that is listed in the book is "the further you go into the desert the closer you get to god". This is believe is related to the idea that the further you go from society and cities the more spiritual a place is. Nature is often far away from other people and in a deserted place. This helps because it is silent and away from distractions which helps people focus and commune with god. This is because it helps you get away from distractions that pull you away from god.
