Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail
Chapter 2: Splitting
This chapter discusses how Strayed family and friends split and fell apart after her mothers death. Strayed traveled around the United States for Four years after her mothers death but always found herself back in Minnesota. However, when Strayed left to hike some of the PCT she was leaving her home state for good. She even visited her mothers grave one last time talking to it and explaining how she apologizes that no one will be there to take care of it anymore.
Strayed started her hike in Mojave, California. The night before her hike started, she stayed in the cheapest motel she could find and resisted the urge to find a man in town to sleep with. During the night she also thought about her recently divorced husband and their last encounter. Her husband that she was getting what she had always wanted and that was to be alone. Strayed slowly started to fall out of love with her husband moths before she stared her hike. After her mothers death, her husband was accepted into a PhD program in New York, he wanted Strayed to accompany him so he originally declined for a year. In that year Strayed began to kiss, and only kiss, other men. Strayed went multiple places during this time trying to find alone time and figure out her life. Once she returned to her husband, she realized she needed to get a divorce. By this time, her mother had been dead for three years.
