Landscapes blog # 1 pgs 1-38
After reading this section, it was very interesting to contemplate the four axioms. I think that the idea that a place might be sacred for one but not sacred for another is very true. For example when I was on my trip to China, we went to the temple of heaven. For us the place was a tourist site. For many people in China the place is very sacred and important to their culture. We marveled at the beauty of the place for a couple of minutes while the people of China stared at the temple for a very long time. We were easily bored at the place and felt that it was time to go even though we had been there for a few minutes. The other idea is the idea that you might not be able to enter a sacred place isn't handpicked. On the AT there is a hostel that I will remember for a long time because it was the hostel I got pulled off of the day before making it to Harper's ferry. When I reached the hostel, I thought it was just another place to take a break and eat lunch but it then became the place that I had to leave due to a staph infection on my foot. All the axioms are interesting to ponder, but I felt that those two were very noteworthy due to personal experience.
