The story of this writer wanting to leave her stressful life as a teacher an embark on a thru hike is a great read. It shows that literally anyone can thru hike, if they plan for it. I enjoyed how the writer said that one can experience God thru nature, like seeing a top of a mountain as God. One must completely emerge themselves in the experience of the hike to get the most out of the trail. This includes getting rid of technology and other distractions to focus on nature and the beauty around us. Modern technology separates us from the reality of the world, and having those few months away from technology can really recenter a person. Lastly it is important to note that to experience a place is to participate in history, which means you must be present in the world and not distracted by every day luxuries. It i so necessary for one to be focused on the world around them rather than technology and social media if they want to be a changing factor in the world.
