Landscapes 2
The section begins with topos and chora. Topos is a mere location which can be a place, a building, a view etc. A chora is a place with great significance like the elementary school you went to, a home, a favorite restaurant etc. These terms relate with something that was said on the last episode of The Office. One of the employees said, " I came to the company because I needed a job and they were hiring. The reason I picked my desk was cause it was the only one empty. However over the years humans have this weird habit of making an ordinary place into their home." Using this quote, the desk and company was originally a topos, just a place with no significance to the person. After many years of work, the place becomes a chora since it is a very significant place in that person's life. Then there is a difference between chronos and kairos. Chronos is the measurement of time but kairos is a significant moment in time. Chronos would be just like everyday moments in a work routine. Kairos would be the time when someone graduates or gets married. These terms are important for understanding sacred places and how they form. Kairos can turn a topos into a chora.
