“And
the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and
minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
To most, guarding your heart is when you pull
your heart away in an act of self-preservation against the hostile
circumstantial climate and pain. This is where the heart is hidden in an
underground bunker or protected by security guards from foreign intruders.
However, this statement shatters this type of thinking and behavior. In
insinuates that the peace sought for can only be when the heart is given to
another, the Holy. No longer guarding the heart from others, but giving it to
someone that you ultimately trust, the decisions made are no longer from you
and not your thoughts and plans but from God. This peace takes you out of the
equation and fills the thinking occupation up to God. Creating a form of
hesychia or inner stillness in oneself where the heart and mind can not be hurt
because it is now outside the earthly realm of being wounded. Like a plane in
the sky, it escapes the chaos down below for the beautiful picture of the heavenly
atmosphere all around. This plane you can not control because you do not know
how and because you do not own it. You are now able to see the grander picture
and, even though you do not know what all the figures and battles that are on
the ground mean, you know it is going to be okay. Furthermore, the inner
stillness goes beyond, surpassing every plan, program, or list of works to
achieve; this inner peace allows people to be where they are in a secure manner
within their hearts. The guard is not so much what to stop letting in but what
not to stop letting out, the peace from love. The love helps to develop the
person. Imagine the only door of the heart releasing none stop peace from love,
nothing could get through to even try to injure the heart because its being
blocked and even pushed back from what is being released. The best defense is a
great offence in the case of the heart. Same goes with the mind. The thoughts
of our mind stem from the identity and state of our heart. So as the heart is
releasing, the mind becomes the manifest fountain of the release capturing the
frothing over in the form of thoughts pushing back the negative gates of hell
and pulling down strongholds and negative perceptions/attitudes of the mind.
For to God and man, the best gift ever given and restored was when
reconciliation came to their relationship, bringing peace between the two
worlds, now becoming one.
