Outside Reading: Is it offensive to "just hike" on a pilgrims' path?

12/1/2016

This is not an article per say, but it was a question drawn on an online forum with people giving their opinions and I found it quite interesting to read. The person who asked the question was planning on thru hiking in Norway but not for religious reasons, just for the sake of doing it. He posed the question of if it was disrespectful or fine to hike on a pilgrim's path without the intent of hiking for religious reasons.

From the answers of others, it is apparent that almost no one judges hikers for their reason of being on the path. Everyone is open minded and accept people no matter what their reasons for hiking are. Someone posted a survey which even said that people thru hike for religious reasons on 9.6% of the time, so he has nothing to worry about. I do think it was nice of the writer to ask before his hike though because it shows he has compassion and respect for others and their experience of the trail.
