Viewing Nature Interactively
11-3-16
John Gatta wrote, “She wants to
become mindful not only of sedges, grasses, and trees but also of rabbits,
squirrels, domestic steers, mockingbirds, chickadees, starlings, carp, turtles,
slugs, frogs, and snakes.” I found this interesting because it seems as though
the woman is not as observant as she wants to be. Walking through the Noland
Trail on this nature walk, I noticed how many things subtly happen throughout
the woods in nature that I would have never taken the time to stop and see
until that walk. It revealed to me the fact that in this complex world, people
can get easily caught up in certain things of life such as family, occupation,
friends, and wealth. I am very guilty of going through the motions of life, so
to say, instead of living each day as an experience. While on trial, I began to
notice the leaves falling like raindrops, the people scurrying along the path,
and some people were moseying around enjoying and taking in nature.
I have been on the trail quite a few times before, but never actually to
walk around and interact with the terrain as we did on this walk. I stopped and
peered through the branches of two magnificent trees as I looked out across the
lake. I noticed the beautiful reflection of the trees with their leaves turning
colors signifying the beginning of fall. I was amazed by how peaceful and calm
the water was. There were barely any ripples in the water, and I did not see
any organisms moving around. It was like for those few seconds; everything
stopped to admire the simple and beautiful nature changing seasons. I enjoyed
this trip a lot because it was interesting to get out of the classroom on that
sunny day to admire and experience firsthand the emotional connection for
ourselves.
