Lions Bridge Experience

This past Thursday we went on a trip outside of class to the Lions Bridge. I had never been there before and was surprised by how breathtaking it was. When we arrived all I could look at was the shimmering water that I didn't realize was so close to our campus. The sun was close to setting and I was really excited to take a few photos of it. The sun was shining and the weather was beautiful as Professor Redick gave us a tour of nature. First, we walked to the waters edge where the lake emptied into the river. Where the water collided there were fish feeding, attempting to make their way into the lake. As we walked down the path we took in the scenes of nature, the trees, alive or dead, the animals. While walking through the woods next to the water, I spotted a herring sitting on a branch and decided to point it out to the group. Looking at the bird reminded me of when I was rowing. I was sitting in the boat on the water and I spotted a bird on a branch, the sun was just rising so all I could see was the outline of the bird. We observed the different plants and how they tell stories, to us and to each other. We walked for a while and eventually we were sent off to be on our own. Me and a few friends decided to walk to the smaller bridge to try and spot some turtles. No turtles were seen, but we saw a beautiful view of the fall colors.

We wanted to head back to the water near the Lions Bridge to hopefully take some pictures before the sun went down. As we walked down the path back, taking in the scenery, joggers running past, I felt a sense of calm. I have always found peace in the outdoors and the beauty of Gods creation. Back home I would go on short runs every other day around dusk. After running I would always lay in the grass outside of my house and stare up at the sky and bask in its beauty. Being in Northern Virginia you don't always get to see the stars but when you do its amazing. After a short trek back through the woods we came back to the Lions Bridge. The sun gleamed a bright orange and the sky reflected its astounding colors.
As the sun set I stared out at the large body of water, shining a bright orange color. It was a peaceful journeying through the woods and watching the sun set. I got some breathtaking photos that I hope to save for a lifetime.
