Outside Source: Different
Types of Pilgrimage
A Sacred Journey: Spirituality
and Intention in Travels and Daily Life
I was looking through some
of the different types of pilgrimages and discovered that there are about 10
categories pilgrimages can be divided into. The first kind of pilgrimage is the
traditional pilgrimage. A traditional pilgrimage is a pilgrimage where people
go to a sacred place where may have gone for centuries before them. In
Christianity, the most sacred traditional pilgrimages are the Camino and a trip
to the Holy Land. Many people seek to go on traditional pilgrimages for their
first journeys. There are some sacred sites, however, that have been forgotten
and are being rediscovered now. Ancestral pilgrimage can inform and inspire
someone to look deeper into their roots. This can also be interesting because
it can give someone information about the area their ancestors descended from. There
is a form called missional pilgrimage where someone will travel to a foreign country
on a mission trip. This is very common amongst young people in the Christian
ministry today. Many missional pilgrimages have been described as a journey of
intentionality to share in the life of those you are helping. There is also a
pilgrimage of culture or significance, which is taken for one’s personal
reasons. For instance, your father could be a big football fan and want to travel
to his favorite team’s stadium. This is considered a form of pilgrimage where
you do not have to have a specified reason it can be as simple as you have seen
pictures of this beautiful place you want to experience. There is also a form
of pilgrimage called outdoor pilgrimage. Outdoor pilgrimage is where someone
steps away from their busy lifestyle and encounters nature in its finest. In
outdoor pilgrimages, people often notice nature closer than ever before and
they allow the plants, animals, and terrain to show them something they have
never heard before. I found it very interesting after reading this article that
there are so many different kinds of pilgrimages. I did not look at all the
different aspects of pilgrimages before reading this article.
