Image and Pilgrimage #2

The author discusses the nature of visions in Christianity and pilgrimage. One category of vision is "intellectual vision." In this specific type, there is no visible apparition. Instead, one becomes profoundly aware of a spiritual truth. I believe that while doing a through hike, many along the AT experience intellectual visions, whether it be about themselves, their community, or the world at large. On the trail, you must be willing to let go of every worldly possession and luxury that you've left at home. Through the plight of being surrounded by nature and others going through the same experience as you, many hikers have epiphanies or spiritual awakenings.
